The Les Kurbas Lviv Theater was founded by Volodymyr Kuchynsky and a group of young actors in 1988. The theater has always been distinguished by its highly intellectual and unique repertoire, mastering and developing a series of theatrical methods and trainings in psychophysics, plasticity, and voice. The theater has conducted a series of joint projects with Jerzy Grotowski's Workcenter (Italy), Anatoly Vasiliev's School of Dramatic Art (Russia), Gardzienice Theater Center (Poland), and the Saratoga International Theater Center (USA) and in 2006, it was awarded the highest Ukrainian cultural award, the Taras Shevchenko National Prize, for its creative achievements. The Les Kurbas Theater is a unique theater-school for Ukraine that has trained many generations of actors and directors, initially at the Theater Studio, and since 2001 at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.
