"Rainbow" State Puppet Theater

"The Adventures of the Good Soldier Švejk" is a classic Czech novel, the plot of which, however, is known primarily from movie adaptations. Joanna Zdrada proposes a somewhat subversive interpretation of the classic works, relying on its unusual humor. She describes one of history's bloodiest episodes in a way that sometimes verges on clownery. Underneath the guise of wit, "Kraut" piles up meanings, and humor and parody become a way to survive a time of great social and political change.
