Khmelnytsky Regional Academic Music and Drama Theater

This theater was founded in 1931 as a mobile theater for the Ukrainian diaspora. In 1933, the theater moved to Ukraine and, although it was based in Berdychiv, it traveled with performances to Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Kyiv and other regions. In 1938, the whole team moved to Kamianets-Podilskyi - the administrative center of the newly created region. In 1941, because of the war, the troupe, together with their families, were sent into temporary evacuation. Therefore, from August 1941 to October 1943 the theater visited twenty-six cities in Transcaucasia, Central Asia, the Far East and the North East. In 1944, the artistic team returned to their native land and began the theatrical season in the city of Proskuriv. In March 2009, the Khmelnytsky Theater, named after G.I. Petrovsky, was renamed in honor of the coryphaeus of the Ukrainian theater Mykhailo Starytsky.
