The Dog’s House
"The mystical world of Troitsky seems to push back against the absurdity of a reality intensified by war. It is an uncompromising attempt to explore the Ukrainian psyche" (Financial Times). This lamentation-performance combines Sophocles' ancient play Oedipus Rex, translated by Ivan Franko, with a modern text—the play The Doghouse, a dystopian piece about the life of the "silent majority" by iconic playwright and director KLIM, along with Vasyl Barka's novel The Yellow Prince. According to the creators, excerpts from these works resonate deeply with Ukraine’s historical events. The characters, representing a cross-section of Ukrainian society, find themselves trapped in a cage. What is this cage, and how long will we remain in captivity? Themes of bondage, human suffering, and the search for truth and freedom are powerfully illuminated in this performance.
